You're Luggage

Just like every episode of MTV Cribs features a look inside the fridge, it seems like every Peace Corps blog has to mention a packing list, so here it is:

2 blue
1 brown

I'm not going to pretend to know what I'll need for the next 27 months, but I plan on writing another post or commenting on this one to give future volunteers an idea of what works and what doesn't.

I will however pass along some tips that I got from others with more experience than me.
  • My high school French teacher grew up in Togo and said that cell phone service is good and that everyone has one. He said that drivers and people with electricity are fine with letting you get a quick charge whenever possible.
  • I spoke with a RPCV who was working on the Africa country desk in DC and he recommended getting saddlebags for the bike that the Peace Corps will give me.

That's it for now. Next post will be from Africa!

I stumbled upon your blog after the right side of my facebook page recommended that I get back in touch with you--that has been extremely useless until this moment. I can't believe you're finally doing peace corps! It seemed like it would be forever before you knew where you were assigned, when you were leaving, etc.

It's awesome that you're doing public health work--I'm sure you'll have an amazing experience. I am imagining you surrounded by a band of 20+ little kids who idolize you and will do your bidding. I hope you'll keep updating your blog, and I'll try to keep up with it. It's no celebrity gossip blog, but I'll try to deal.

Anyway, good luck with all your adventures! Nathan and I are moving to Long Island, NY in August so he can start the journey of getting an anthro-related PhD, and I'll be getting my soul slowly torn apart by med schools. But seriously, we miss you, so take care and keep us posted!
